big update

So since I didn’t blog for over two weeks, I have a lot to update you on. I thought about posting individually for each thing, but instead, you just get this one, broken down into segments.

Year of Epic-ness Review

1. I learned how to use a sewing machine! I made myself a camera strap, and even though the practice fabric I chose turned out super ugly, at least I know how to make a cute one now!

2. Bailey did awesome in the Paws for the Cure walk! We can’t wait to do it again next year!

3. Justin’s niece is finally walking! (well for the most part. She can get across the room before falling on her bum)

4. I spent an entire day with nothing to do at work, and caught up on the 300+ google reader posts I was behind on

5. My first ever fantasy football team is doing awesome!

6. I won a fantastic giveaway over at Lacey’s blog, which consisted of all sorts of coolness. Here are my two favorite items:

This elegant coral bloom ring from Linkel Designs

This beautiful Philly Love gocco print from Art ShArk Designs

Too Old for Grape Juice Update

1. The wine party I’m throwing with Rebecca is scheduled for the second week of November. Everyone will bring their favorite bottle, and we’ll all try everything!

2. A friend of ours is a wine rep, and she hooked us up with a great deal!  Eight bottles for $50! We told her I prefer sweet rather than dry, so she gave us a variety to try.

3. We bought an 8-bottle wine cooler. Justin wanted the 30-bottle, but I don’t think we’ll ever have that many bottles in the house at one time!

4. I have found that I love Arbor Mist Peach Sparkling wine. I know it’s more like champagne, but man do I love it.

Healthy Habits

1. In January I had a blood test done because my dentist thought I had diabetes. (Apparently they can tell from your gums?) It was found that I don’t have diabetes (Thank goodness!), but that I do have SCREAMING high cholesterol. They told me to change my diet, and exercise and come back in six months.

2. I used to eat McDonalds four times a week when I lived by myself, so I wasn’t surprised that it’s high. I narrowed that down to about once every week and half, and watched other things I ate in place of it. I continued to be lazy though, cuz well, I just did.

3. In September I went back for a follow-up test. Thinking I had done really well changing my eating habits, I expected the number to go down at least a little. I was wrong. It went UP! (Maybe it was all those hotdogs I at in August.) They want to put me on medicine, but my mom and I decided that I should try natural changes first, because I’m only 25 and not overweight, and who knows what’s in those medications that will affect me later. One ingredient is known to cause fertility problems, and I certainly do not want that.

4. Since I got those results, I have only eaten McDonalds twice, and not a single hotdog. I switched to wheat bread from white, and from 2% milk to skim. I take Omega-3 Fish Oil vitamins, along with a woman’s daily. I drink water instead of pop, and use Livestrong’s Daily Plate on my iPhone to monitor my sodium and cholesterol intake.

5. We all know, however, this won’t make a difference if I don’t get off my bum. So I went to the gym. For the first time in 25 years, I got on a treadmill and ran/walked 2 miles in 25 minutes. I have no idea where that falls in the grand scheme of exercise, but I was proud of it. I also plan to start attending yoga classes and maybe some others as I get more involved.

6. Justin has been so helpful through this. He cooks dinners that he knows are better for me, he keeps me from picking out all junk food at the grocery store, and he has encouraged me every step of the way. Since he is an avid gym-goer, he’ll be very good at being that extra push I need to get up and go. If I haven’t said it enough, thank god for this amazing boy in my life.

So there's the update on all that is crazy and wonderful. As one last little tidbit, here's a funny conversation I had with Jut this morning:

Him: I read that people who blog for a living, can make up to $100,000 a year! Why don't you do that?
Me: Because the people who blog for a living, have a topic, like cooking, or fashion. I just blog about random shit.
Him: Maybe I can blog about a topic.
Me: And what topic would you choose?
Him: I could blog about Fantasy Sports!
Me: Eh, I don't know babe. You may have won your baseball league, but your football team is 1-5 right now.
Him: ...
